The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet runs on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4) with a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, giving it a remarkable speed over other tablets.

Images and videos displayed on its 1280 x 800 screen are quick, crisp and exciting. It gives clearer sound through its two front-facing speakers.

The quad-core processors give the device the capability to multitask effortlessly. The tablet’s 262mm x 180mm dimensions allow multiple screens to be opened on the Note 10.1, two screens at least. A third screen can be added via its Pop Up Play feature which lets users playback videos in a balanced window that can be dragged around the screen and overlaid anywhere. When this feature turned on, and the screen split into two, I did not notice any delay in performance.

The notable feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is its S Pen stylus and the S Note application. The tablet’s S Note app’s handwriting recognition is it’s another amazing feature. It was able to detect and read our bad handwriting which even us sometimes could not understand.

In addition to converting handwriting into text, the S Note is also capable to change rough diagrams into shapes and searching out complicated math formulas through its Formula Match feature.

If you like better to type over scrawling with the stylus, it is easy to do it with the virtual QWERTY keyboard.

Besides from drawing, by clicking on the button on the S Pen, you can do gesture-based commands like double tapping to open a minimized Note window, or swiping right to left to go back to the previous page.

Sharing the contents of the screen is possible through Samsung’s AllShare Play as well as its streaming dongle AllShare Cast.

In spite of the tablet’s plastic casing, it is quite strong and does not feel cheap. Holding the Galaxy Note 10.1 is effortless as it weighs only 597g.
